Among the new wave of compact disc arrivals are several good recordings in the recent trend toward contemplative and inspirational music, plus a few with an interesting local angle.

"Here Comes the Bride", Silverwood Ensembles (Allegro LLC, 425-885-7934): For all you brides out there who haven't a clue who wrote which famous wedding-processional tune , or how to choose music for a wedding , take heart: here is a locally produced two-disc set that is a veritable sampler of 56 "Name That Tune" classical favorites suitable for processing, recessing, candle lighting, and just plain sitting around and enjoying. Instruments in all sorts of combinations - organ, harp, winds, strings, quartets, trios, brass - are performed by musicians who also play with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra and other professional groups, in repertoire that extends from Vivaldi"s "Four Seasons" and Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" to the "Masterpiece Theatre" tune (Mouret's Rondeau) and well beyond. And even if you aren't planning a wedding, this is a nice disc to have for all those "oh, that's what you call this piece" moments.

There are CDs devoted to various classical and contemporary music choices for weddings. Recently, a first ever music video was produced that takes video from 40 different weddings in almost every imaginable setting and combines it with 14 different instrument ensembles into a program that contains 53 of the best-loved wedding pieces in the world. The engaged couple is able to hear the music while seeing it in the context of an actual processional, ceremony, etc. The selections are numbered and identified by name and composer on the screen. Using the music checklist provided in the package, the couple can make note of the pieces they want for their prelude, seating, processional, ceremony and recessional.

Brides who have used this tell me that it is a moving experience as well as a wonderful way to plan the wedding music with their fiance and parents. All are able to see and hear for themselves exactly what the effect is. The video is titled "Here Comes the Bride," and is available from MBC Video, Inc., 14415 NE 64th St., Redmond, WA 98052 or phone (425)885-7934. The cost is $24.95 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.
